Artus targets at COPD patients who suffer from frequent cough and excessive secretions. Without the use of medicine, it helps COPD patients to remove secretions more effectively via 2 methods: Loosening and Cough Segmentation. The device has two modes. In the loosening mode, patients breathe normally through the device. The high frequency oscillation airflow vibrates the walls of airway to loosen the mucus that is stuck, making it easier to remove. In the segmenting mode, patients cough into the device, the pressure change from the device valve (intermittent obstruction of the air path during expiatory phase of cough leads to repeating peak flows) keeps the airway open, giving lungs the power they need to make cough more effective and require fewer coughs to remove secretions.
The device is recommended to be used in the morning to help people clear their lungs from the secretions that built up overnight while they sleep. Also the device can be used by the patient as often as needed both inside and outside the home.
