Philips InnoSpire Micro is a small portable and discrete drug delivery device in the nebulizer family that uses vibrating mesh technology to deliver liquid medications to the lungs in forms of liquid mist. It deliver a therapeutic dose of the drug as an aerosol so that it can be breathed straight into the lungs within a fairly short period of time.
This project explores an product addition to Philips nebulizer line where it is positioned in between conventional nebulizer which consist of a nebulizing chamber and an air compressor that convert the drug into a breathable mist, and i-Neb advance, an connected device that utilize vibrating mesh technology (VMT) with advanced features such as wifi connectivity and metered dose.
Micro differentiates from conventional nebulizer in a way that it is a small battery powered, light weight and virtually silent drug delivery device. It significantly reduce the inconvenience of conventional nebulizer therapy while delivering a precise, reproducible dose of drug. It delivers the medication only when a patient breathes in through the mouth piece. The timing gives the mediation the best opportunity to reach deep into the lungs and greatly reduces exhaled or escaped medication, minimizing waste of drug to the environment.
Early exploration focused on this seperation and interaction between medication chamber and the handset.
The device consumes medication in an extremely efficient way and saves users’ total cost of use. The medication chamber is where the core function of the product takes place. The use of accent blue color on the fill gate highlight this zone. User drops the liquid medication through the slide open fill gate
Early prototypes explore different design details such as therapy light. The therapy light provides guidance to use the device. it indicates the appropriate breath speed and device status to ensure user get the most effective therapy
